The moment you step into this charming establishment, you're greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that reflects the heart and soul of the American South. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Cowgirl offers a dining experience that feels like a homecoming, serving up rich flavors and an extensive menu that caters to every craving.

The restaurant’s interior is a perfect blend of rustic and cozy, with wooden tables, vintage decor, and a welcoming vibe that makes you feel instantly at ease. The ambiance is casual, perfect for a laid-back lunch with friends or a family dinner. But what truly makes Cowgirl stand out is its menu, a flavorful journey through Southern and Western cuisine that’s as diverse as it is delicious.

Start your meal with their signature appetizers, which never disappoint. The Cowgirl’s take on classic Southern fried chicken is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and served with a delectable dipping sauce that brings out the best in every bite. For something lighter but equally satisfying, the shrimp and grits are a fan favorite, offering a perfect blend of juicy shrimp atop creamy, buttery grits.

When it comes to main courses, Cowgirl knows how to deliver. The BBQ ribs are cooked to perfection, falling off the bone and smothered in a smoky, tangy sauce that perfectly complements the richness of the meat. If you’re craving a hearty sandwich, their pulled pork with coleslaw is a standout-flavorful, filling, and served on soft, fresh buns. Vegetarians can also indulge in their vegetable jambalaya, which packs a punch of spice and flavor without compromising on taste.

The drink menu at Cowgirl is just as impressive as its food. The bar is stocked with a wide range of craft beers, cocktails, and Southern-inspired drinks. A classic mint julep or a refreshing iced tea pairs wonderfully with any of their dishes. For those in the mood for something a little stronger, the whiskey selection is extensive, offering a wide variety of options that will satisfy even the most discerning connoisseurs.

Beyond the food and drinks, the service at Cowgirl is top-notch. The staff is attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, making sure that every guest feels taken care of. Whether it’s offering recommendations or ensuring your glass is always full, they go above and beyond to create an enjoyable dining experience.

The location itself is a perfect blend of convenience and charm. Situated in the vibrant neighborhood of the West Village, Cowgirl attracts both locals and tourists alike. Its proximity to nearby parks and attractions makes it an ideal spot for a meal before or after a day of sightseeing or shopping. The restaurant also offers outdoor seating, perfect for those warm New York evenings when you want to enjoy your meal with a view of the bustling streets.

In terms of price, Cowgirl offers good value for the quality and portion sizes. While not the cheapest option in the area, the portions are generous, and the flavors are more than worth the price. It’s a place where you can indulge in comfort food without feeling like you’re breaking the bank.

  • For this review, I came here on a nice weather Sunday in late August for brunch. I’ve been here many times before and I absolutely love the place. The atmosphere is so fun. I’m originally from Texas and even though I’ve been gone from Texas for over a decade, it still gives me a lot of nostalgia vibes. Most times I’ve come here, I’ve made a reservation but it usually seems like walk-ins are available. I don’t believe they take reservations online, but you can make one over the phone. As far as food, the queso and chips are so great and feels like TexMex quality. This is not a TexMex restaurant, to be clear, but it seems like standard Texas restaurant that offers a combination of Tex Mex and southern cuisine. Think of it as quirkier Willie’s Ice House. I also love the frito pie and the quesadillas. The frozen margaritas are some of the best in the city because they have a margarita machine whereas many places try to make them in a blender. Sometimes certain servers can be a little cold or aloof, but generally they always get you what you need. I look forward to coming to this restaurant all the time and recommend it frequently, especially for groups.

  • Emily & Evan were so sweet in helping my fiancé and I celebrate out engagement! Our food was delicious (fried chicken sandwich & quesadilla) as were our drinks (summertime spritz). Evan even added some edible glitter for the occasion! Not sure if my husband-to-be knows but this is most definitely our new anniversary date spot!

  • A fun , kitschy bar and restaurant serving American comfort food. The staff were super friendly and accommodating and the service was really fast. We loved the corn dogs and shared an order as an appetizer. The southern fried shrimp and pulled pork were amazing too and the sides were delicious. The tater tots are fire.

  • ’m from Texas, so I was curious to see how their chicken fried steak stacked up. And it’s legit. Crispy, well-seasoned, topped with great cream gravy, and served with a solid side of mashed potatoes—it’s a serious meal. I finished with the pecan pie. Not my favorite - the crust didn’t have much flakiness, but it was still decent. The overall vibe was great though, and the service was really friendly. I’ll be back.

  • This is such a fun, southwestern-themed restaurant! I loved the style and flair in every direction and the food was fantastic too! There are great soul food options, lots of vegetarian and classics. I loved the catfish which comes either grilled, blackened or fried. Lots of people got the chili and ribs, also great cornbread! Would recommend the prickly pear margarita which you can also get frozen! This is great for a post-work outing or night out, highly recommend!
